Where our data comes from, and the rules we send by.
Everything we hold is business information from public sources. Every email we send is honest, identified and easy to stop.
Where the data comes from
We hold about 6.27M US businesses, built from public sources and merged into one record per business:
- State business registries: company filings, registered agents and status.
- Licences and permits: state and city licences such as liquor, lodging, contractor, food, tobacco and wholesale permits.
- Federal registers: carrier records for trucking companies (USDOT / FMCSA) and the national provider register for clinics and practices (NPI).
- County property records: who owns the land a business stands on, used to trace the owning company.
- The business's own public presence: its website, business listings and public social pages.
We don't buy consumer data, scrape private accounts, or collect credit, health or financial information.
How we check it
- Owner: taken from licences in the owner's own name, property records and the business's own website. Each lead says how sure we are and why; where we can't tell, it says so.
- Email: we check that the domain receives mail and that the mailbox exists before anyone is emailed, without sending a message. Catch-all mailboxes are marked.
- Website: "no website" means we searched and found none, never that we didn't look.
- Duplicates: the same business from several sources is merged into one record.
Every email follows CAN-SPAM
Business email outreach in the US is governed by the CAN-SPAM Act. Every email we send for a client:
- comes from the client's real name and domain, with an honest subject line;
- says it is a business offer;
- includes the sender's postal address;
- tells the reader how to stop further emails, and we honor it promptly, well within the 10 business days the law allows.
We also keep each mailbox to a safe daily number, warm new mailboxes up slowly, and stop a thread the moment someone replies, bounces or opts out.
Channels we don't use cold
- WhatsApp: its business policy only allows messages to people who opted in, so we use it only after a business writes to us.
- Text messages: cold marketing texts to mobile phones carry legal risk under the federal TCPA, so we don't send them.
- Restricted products: we don't run outreach for tobacco, vape or hemp products.
Opting out and removal
Replying "unsubscribe" to any email we send stops all emails from that sender. That address also goes on our shared do-not-email list, so no BeatTheDoor client will email it again.
To have your business removed from our database entirely, email [email protected] with the business name and address. We confirm by reply.
What we ask of clients
We ask every client to send only honest, relevant business offers, to keep the opt-out line, and not to use our data for consumer marketing, credit, employment, insurance or housing decisions, or anything else the Fair Credit Reporting Act covers.
